TV actor Rituraj Singh dies of sudden cardiac arrest: What’s the link between pancreatic illness and the heart?

After TV actor Rituraj Singh passed away from a sudden cardiac arrest following treatment for pancreatic illness at the age of 59, people are wondering if there's a connection between the two and if pancreatic problems can affect the heart. While studies have shown a link, it's not clear if one directly causes the other.

Dr. Sanjeev Gera, a heart specialist at Fortis Hospital in Noida, explains that pancreatic issues alone don't usually lead to a cardiac arrest. However, if someone with pancreatic troubles also has other risks like diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or a smoking habit, they're more vulnerable. These risks can contribute to blockages in the heart's blood vessels, which could lead to a heart attack or sudden cardiac arrest.

Inflammation plays a role too. When the body is inflamed, as in the case of acute pancreatitis, it can lead to thicker blood and damage to blood vessel walls, making it easier for clots to form and cause a heart problem.

Dr. Gera also mentions stress cardiomyopathy, where the body's response to acute pancreatitis can strain the heart, causing irregular heartbeats and potentially a cardiac arrest.

For those with pancreatic issues, it's crucial to monitor their heart health, especially if they have other health problems. Regular heart check-ups and tests can help catch any issues early and prevent complications.
